How to Determine Your Breast Shape
Have you ever felt like your boobs look weird?
Don’t worry. You are not the only one.
The truth is boobs come in many different shapes and sizes and no two are alike (not even to each other). However, size isn’t the only thing that matters when contemplating the perfect bra.
We aren’t barbie dolls and don’t all have the perfect plastic boob shape so bras are going to fit differently for everyone.
Here’s what you need to know about breast shape.
Fullness
Are your breasts full on the bottom or on top? Some women are fuller on top, some women are fuller on the bottom, and some women have equal fullness.
To find out if your boobs are fuller on top or on bottom look at the placement of the nipple.
If most of the breast tissue is below the nipple, you are fuller on the bottom.
If most of the breast tissue is above the nipple then you are fuller on top.
Projection
How far away from the chest do your breasts protrude? If your breasts are closer to your chest then you have shallow boobs. If your breasts point out and away from the chest then you have projected boobs.
You may notice that you have shallow breasts if your boobs don’t fill the cups of the bra. In that case try a bra that provides lift and gives you
If you have projected breasts, your boobs maybe tend to spill over the cups creating a “quad boob” effect. Try a bra with more open cup seams that won’t cut into your breasts.
Root Width
Have you ever had underwire poke you in the side of the boob or the armpit while wearing the correct size bra? That’s probably because that underwire did not align with your shape.
The base of your breasts is the root. If you have a wide root, you will need an underwire that is wider. If the underwire is too narrow it will poke the breast.
If you have narrow roots, then the underwire might be too long and poke into your armpit and your breasts may not fill in the sides of the cup.
Depending on the brand or model of the bra, you could be wearing the right size and still not have it fit you accurately. The underwire needs to mimic the natural shape of your breasts in order for it to fit properly.
Separation
How close are your breasts?
The gore may be uncomfortable if you have close breasts. Try finding a lower gore to compensate.
If your breasts swing out to the sides, try a bra that brings them to the front such as a balconette bra with side support.
Conclusion
All of these factors are determinants in choosing the perfect bra. Again, you might be doing everything right but that bra may not be the perfect fit for your body.
It’s not your breasts’ fault!
That bra is just not meant to be.
